International Nurses' Day

History

International Nurses' Day is celebrated on the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of the modern nurse. She was born on May 12, 1820, in Florence, Italy.

The first International Nurses Day was celebrated in 1965 by the International Council of Nurses (ICN).

But in January 1974, the day gained international recognition and it was decided to celebrate May 12 as International Nurses' Day to honor Florence Nightingale and nurses for their contributions to society.

Significance and importance

Nurses are often not as important as doctors, but we should not forget their contribution to society. One of the main goals of International Nurses Day is to raise awareness of the work of nurses, encourage more people to choose this profession in society, and give them the respect they deserve.
